INDUCTION PACKAGE
MIMS has developed induction packages for the farming community, engineering and construction industries that can be tailored to suit your needs either by yourselves or we can customise the package for you.
The revised Occupational Health and Safety Act that came into force on the 1st January 2005, is quite specific in its requirements regarding ‘Duty of Care’.
It is expected that employers, so far as is practicable, shall make employees aware of any hazard that the employee may be exposed to. Apart from having to provide Personal Protective Equipment by law for areas where PPE is required to be worn, other aspects include safety switches on electrical circuits, etc. the interpretation is that an induction of the employees is the method by which they may be made aware of the potential hazards around the workplace.
The workplace is also anywhere that gainful employment is conducted. This can be from the one-man office to thousands of hectares that make up a farm or station. Mine sites have their own act and although similar are vigorously enforced.
It is a requirement of the law that the OSH Act and Regulations are available at the place of employment should any employee request to review these. Using the web site to view these is acceptable.
The knowledge gained from the induction has also to be tested. In other words there is a need to ensure that the training was understood and that a certain level of competency can be demonstrated.
